For some great reason, flying domestic in Japan is a steal. Required miles and taxes are very low. This allows travelers to visit Japan from north to south as I demonstrated in How can you to fly across Japan for less then $C4. And Okinawa is no exception.
Okinawa flights out of Tokyo
Japan Airlines airlines flies Tokyo to Naha (OKA), Okinawa five times a day. All of them out of Haneda (HND) which is conveniently located in the city of Tokyo. The airliner uses long range wide-body jets: B767s and B777s. Japan Airlines is a member of the Oneworld alliance. Which means I can burn my British Airways Avios on Japan Airlines reward flights. So how much Avios are required for an Okinawa flight?
15,000 Avios and $6.62 in taxes for a return ticket in April 2018.
I didn't bother showing Aeroplan's numbers: I wasn't shown any result.
Okinawa flights out of Osaka
Japan Airlines flies two-dailies to Naha out of Osaka's Itami (ITM). When I requested a reward flight on my Executive Club account, this is the result I got:
Again a great reward value of 15,000 Avios and zero dollars in fees or taxes. No fees or taxes applicable on the reward ticket is a first for me.
It's hard to get a better deal than that should you fly to Okinawa. Since Aeroplan would not give me any result, I won't do the comparison. Now the question is: how can I accrue the maximum amount of British Airways Avios to redeem this great flight? One of two answers is here. The second answer will come on the next credit card review. Stay tuned.
