Kuala Lumpur is the world capital of luxury hotels at very competitive prices. Similarly, this applies for reward stays with low points requirement.
Marriott properties in the Malaysian capital are a good example of that. On the one hand, most of the hotels are brand new or recently renovated. On the other hand, most are full-service properties at convenient locations.
Let’s look at these hotels and why they are sweet spots in the Marriott Rewards program.
Category 1 & 2 Marriott properties in Kuala Lumpur (KL)
Marriott has 16 hotels in Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs. Let look at the sweet spots properties in Category 1 & 2 first. Then we will look at the luxury sweet spots.
Category 1 Marriott properties
Category 1 hotels in KL only require 7,500 Marriott Rewards points per night. These hotels are:
These hotels are brand new and perfect for anyone on a budget or who wants to more nights out of their limited points balance.
However the Four Points is a suburban property more than 15 km from downtown KL.
Category 2 Marriott properties
Category 2 Marriott hotels inKL cost 12,500 per night. This group has 6 hotels. Furthermore, you can split the group in 2: on group of hotels in the city, the other group in the suburbs.

In the other group 2 properties are located in the suburban city of Putrajaya. Because they are located more than 20 km from KL, getting there with public transit will take you at least 1h30
If you have the American Express SPG card then you’ll earn 50,000 bonus points when you meet the spend requirement. That bonus value will pay out from 4 to 6 reward nights in the Malaysian capital. It’s a hell of a sweet spot with respect fo category 1 and 2 properties.
Luxury sweet spots
On the luxury front, the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur comes out strong. With only 17,500 Marriott Rewards points per night, it’s the only JW in the world with such a low requirement.
It’s actually under Category 3!!!! If you’re looking for a luxury stay in KL with Marriott, then this property will deliver.
So there goes. I’ve been to KL some years ao and I will go again to explore some Marriott jewels such as the JW Marriott and the Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur which is a boutique hotel at 17,500 points as well.
Also the Ritz-Carlton KL is only at 35,000 just like the Doha property.
