50% off Avios reward flights to London

TRAVEL THE WORLD FOR HALF THE NUMBER OF AVIOS

British Airways has launched a new promotion that allows Executive Club members to redeem flights to London at 50% less Avios on World Traveller Cabin. That's British Airways' fancy wording for Economy Class.

Reward flights must be booked directly with British Airways before June 2018 for travel between September 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019. No registration to the promo is required.

Some reward flights may be hard to get. Routes such as Sydney, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, San Jose (Costa Rica), Grenada, Cancun, Lima and Male may not be available on your preferred dates.

You can redeem the flight using Avios & Money, however only Avios are discounted by 50%. Therefore, the usual fees and charges will apply to the reward airfare. British Airways tends to charge high fees on the North Atlantic flights, particularly out of Canada.

Reward flights with 50% less Avios examples

Here are some examples of reward flights at 50% less Avios outbound to London (LHR & GTW). Boston, New York and Dubai are definite steals. with 13,000 Avios.  Seychelles and LA as well at less than 20,000 Avios for a one-way airfare.

As fees and charges tend to be high I did find some interesting reward flights shown below.

British Airways Cairo-London route at -50% Avios
British Airways Cairo-London route at -50% Avios

British Airways Istanbul-London route at -50% Avios
British Airways Istanbul-London route at -50% Avios

Reward flights with 50% less Avios from Canada

I did a quick reward one-way airfare search from all four Canadian cities:

Vancouver: 8125 Avios + $245.91

Calgary: 8125 Avios + $255.91

Toronto: 6500 Avios + $250.91

Montreal: 6500 Avios + $255.91

As you can see required Avios miles is under 10,000 for all cities. Actually, in the case of Montreal the discount on Avios is 65%.  As I mentioned, British Airways charges high fees.  I will leave it to you to judge if the low required Avios miles compensates for the fees & charges. If you travel alone I'd say yes. However, a family of four may think otherwise.
