Starting Summer 2021, Alaska Airlines will join the oneworld alliance. This will come after a closer partnership with American Airlines which was announced today.
Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan members can as of today:
- Redeem their mils on American Airlines flights;
- Access the AA’s Admiral Clubs;
Further more starting Spring 2020, members will earn miles on all American Airlines flights.
Summer 2021 is when Alaska Airlines will join oneworld, enabling members to earn and burn their Mileage Plan miles on all oneworld airlines.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO CANADIAN TRAVEL HACKERS?
In Canada, Mileage Plan miles can be earned thanks to the Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Mastercard & the MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard credit cards.
This is a good timing for those who want to enjoy some of oneworld’s premium flights particularly Cathay Pacific & Qatar Airways with lower fees. Unlike BAEC Avios which usually applies a high fee not only on its BA reward flights but also on some oneworld partner flights.
All in all, it’s more choice and more flexibility with respect maximizing the value of the oneworld network and premium benefits.
