British Airways‘s Executive Club is cutting the required Avios miles on its reward tickets this fall!

During this time-limited offer, BAEC members will be able to book reward tickets for only 50% of the usual required Avios miles. It applies to the British carrier’s World Traveller (long haul economy) and World Traveller Plus (long haul premium economy). For premium class, Club World (long haul business class) and First, members can book with 10% less Avios.

This offer ends on November 21, 2019, for trips taken by April 30, 2020.
If you are not a BAEC member, you can sign-up here.

British Airways flies Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. The 50% slash is visible in the bottom of each of the outbound Toronto and Montreal flights.

High fees is still an issue with British Airways. Indeed, the carrier charges high fees on transatlantic flights, combined with Heathrow Airport (LHR) fees, one of the most expensive airports in the world.

However, a closer look at the Montreal flight to Amman via LHR shows the following: 11,500 Avios + $250.88 in World Traveller (long haul economy). This is actually an interesting deal with such a low Avios threshold. The $250 can be stiff for some of us, but think about how expensive your taxi ride to the airport or airport parking can be.

Other British Airways reward opportunities can be very enticing. I wanted to share with you this one: look the the cost of the Hong Kong (HKG) to London (LHR):

This is what is called a steal: 9,750 Avios + $55.13 in World Traveller (long haul economy) ! it really does not get any better than this. And yet, to make thing more enticing, the same itinerary on British Airways World Traveller Plus (long haul premium economy) costs: 19,500 Avios + $55.13!!! That’s a killer steal.

One great news doesn’t come alone. Canadians are in luck. RBC Avion card members can transfer their RBC Rewards points to BAEC Avios with a 50% bonus. A minimum of 10,000 RBC Rewards points must be transferred. The following cards are eligible to the offer:

  • RBC Avion Visa Infinite;
  • RBC Avion Visa Platinum;
  • RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion;
  • RBC Avion Visa Business Infinite;
  • RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege;
  • RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege for Private Banking account;
  • RBC Commercial Avion Visa.

This Avioners offer runs from November 1 to December 15, 2019. Don’t forget that this is a one way transfer. Once those RBC Rewards points become Avios there’s no turning back.

Canadian households can create a BAEC household account. It’s convenient as it allows to consolidate all of the family members’ Avios balances into one, including children fro the age of 2.

The British Airways Executive Club 50% discount is a generous one. Although, i may not be applicable across all of British Airways network because of the high fees, it has some very enticing itinerary with a lot of value.

Let me know what your intentions are vis-a-vis BAEC’s 50% slash. Are you going to book by November 21, 2019? Share your thoughts and questions on Amin On Miles Club.
