As travel ceased across the world, hotel chains have had to furlough many of its staff, and Hilton is no exception. But the corporation’s response is impressive.


Hilton Hotels & Resorts CEO Chris Nassetta has decided to forgo his salary for the remainder of the year. A significant move, as the head of company is taking ownership of the gravity of the current crisis. Many properties are closed, while others has to furlough their team members as their occupancy rate runs in the single digits.

Hilton also announced the Executive Committee will take a 50% pay cut until the crisis is over. Corporate employees will either work less hours or be made redundant for up to 90 days. All non-essentiel expenses are frozen.

Hilton is also helping its employees access available jobs with companies such as Amazon, Lidl and Walgreens who are actively recruiting. The hotel chain has signed partnership agreements with these major corporations.


Hilton Honors loyalty program has taken a customer service approach towards its members.


All members whose status was scheduled for downgrade can keep their 2019 Status level until March 31, 2021. This applies to all 3 top tiers: Silver, Gold and Diamond.

The same principle applies for 2020 member status which will be extended until March 31, 2022. That’s a guaranteed status continuity for the next 24 months. Having Gold or Diamond status with Hilton is of great value. I have personally enjoyed Gold member benefits across the globe and across multiple brands. There was never any confusion, properties have always honored the benefits of my status at the Doubletree Turin, Waldorf Astoria Versailles or Doubletree Doha Old Town.


A great piece of news for those who had points expiration in 2020. No point will expire for the remainder of the year. You can transfer now and then 1,000 Amex points to your Hilton Honors account to keep it active.


Existing reservations, for stays before June 30, 2020, can be cancelled at no fee. Even Advance Purchase rates (Hilton’s non-refundable rate) are cancelable or can be changed at no fee. Cancellation or change can be done up to 24 hours before the arrival date.

New reservations have the same free cancelation policy. It applies to direct bookings made via, the app or on the phone.


Hilton Hotels & Resorts have done a great job in reaching out to their customers and team members simultaneously across 85 countries and territories.

The CEO has shown leadership and led by example. It saddens me to see how travel entirely stopped, but I know that Hilton won my heart once again with it’s human approach to service. I’m looking forward to my next Hilton hotels stays.
