Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is joining the oneworld alliance and will become the 14th member airline. The carrier is expected to integrate the alliance mid-2020. RAM's regional carrier Royal Air Maroc Express will integrate the alliance as well. The airline will add 34 new destinations to the oneworld portfolio.
Canadian travelers who are members of oneworld via British Airways Avios will be able to earn and redeem miles with the Moroccan carrier. This could be particularly interesting for passengers flying out of Montreal (YUL).
On top of that, the airline doesn't charge a lot in fees. On a Montreal-Casablanca return flight, RAM only charges $108.24. This is of good value when comes time to redeem with points.
The carrier has an extensive domestic network linking to Tangiers, Oujda, Fes, Marrakesh, Agadir ad more. This will allow visitors to discover Morocco easily while using Avios miles.
Royal Air Maroc isn't quite the first African recruit. Actually, British Airways operates in South Africa and neighboring countries. It's an important addition to the alliance. RAM serves many Western-African capitals such as Dakar, Bamako, Abidjan, Accra, Lome, Niamey, Douala, Libreville, Luanda.
oneworld is to make another announcement soon. Rumors have it that Alaskan Airlines could be the next member. But let's wait and see.
