In Canada we tend to think of New York, London, Paris and Rome as the biggest tourism magnets in the world. Which they are but they trailed Bangkok in 2016. The Thai capital was the most visited city in the world – in terms of international overnight visitors – followed by London, Paris and Dubai. I’m surprised to see on the one hand only one North American city, New York City, and on the other hand only in fifth place.
An important statistic is that 6 out of the top 10 cities are in Asia: Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Seoul. I was about to add Istanbul in Asia but then I remembered my geography classes.
Bangkok is definitely worth a lengthy visit. It’s heaven for food lovers, nightlife creatures and a cultural gem. I’ve been only once and I will certainly go again. Bangkok has also one of the best hotel offering at very competitive rates. Many Canadians would be able to afford properties they would only dream of.
